Diamond Quarter’s Guide to the Jewellery Quarter

Situated slap bang in the middle of the Jewellery Quarter, our flagship store, Diamond Quarter, is a must‑visit when you’re in Birmingham. But what else should be on your list? And what should you know before visiting? Plan the perfect day with Diamond Quarter.

Birmingham’s world-famous Jewellery Quarter

The Jewellery Quarter is a very special place—not just because our shop is there—but because it’s one of the UK’s few jewellery districts still in operation. You won’t find just your average high street shops in the Jewellery Quarter; it’s packed with over 150 businesses offering jewellery expertise, often run by second, third and even fourth generation jewellers, goldsmiths, engravers and diamond specialists, all within one square mile.

Many pieces of jewellery are worked on and finished just streets away from where they’re sold, as the Jewellery Quarter is a hub of heritage craftsmanship. It’s also home to the Birmingham Assay Office, where testing and hallmarking have been carried out for centuries.

Walking around the Jewellery Quarter is delightful in any weather, with historic Georgian shopfronts full of glittering jewels to gaze at.

How to get there:

The Jewellery Quarter is compact and easily walkable from Birmingham City Centre, but is well served by public transport or by car too.

By Train

The Jewellery Quarter benefits from its own railway station, which connects to central Birmingham via Snow Hill and Moor Street.

By Tram

You can also take the tram to the Jewellery Quarter, stopping at either St Paul’s or Jewellery Quarter. The tram connects Birmingham city centre with Edgbaston and Wolverhampton.

By Car

There is roadside parking in the Jewellery Quarter, and a large multi‑storey car park located on Vyse Street, Jewellery Quarter, B18 6LP.

What else is there to do

A trip to the Jewellery Quarter can be a full day out, not just a stop‑off or a flying visit. The area is perfect for a good wander, with plenty of places to stop for a celebratory drink or a bite to eat.

Heritage Trail

A great way to familiarise yourself with the area and take in the glorious architecture. The Heritage Trail lets you soak up the Quarter’s opulent past, buzzing present and exciting future.

Museum of the Jewellery Quarter

If you’re shopping for jewellery, why not make it the theme of the day? Visit the Museum of the Jewellery Quarter to discover how jewellery was made and how it continues to be made by many of the area’s craftspeople.

Pen Museum

As well as diamonds and fine jewellery, in the Victorian era the Jewellery Quarter was home to the world’s largest centre for pen nib production. The Pen Museum offers a snapshot of how it was like in the past.

The Coffin Works

The coffin works is an unusual place, but not as morbid as it sounds. Learn the craft behind coffin furniture from the company that manufactured pieces for the likes of Princess Diana and Winston Churchill.

Floating Spa

If you’re looking for something a bit more relaxing, then the Floating Spa might be your answer. Relax and let your worries float away.

St Paul’s Market

This old warehouse has been transformed into a drinking and dining destination that has it all, including seven kitchens and three bars. The perfect place to stop and refuel.
